Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

A warm smile can make someone’s day brighter. If your teeth are crooked, cracked or discolored, though, you may not be as inclined to show off your full smile. With cosmetic dentistry, you can create the perfect smile—allowing you to smile bright, with confidence.

What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic dental procedures are any procedures that help to improve the look of a patient’s smile. This includes both procedures that involve the repair or reshaping of the teeth, and the gums.

Why Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic procedures can help to not only boost a patient’s confidence, but also help with treating a variety of oral health issues. When a patient has a damaged tooth, for instance, they can put themselves at risk for tooth decay, gum disease, pulp infection and more. By repairing the tooth, the patient lowers their risk of their teeth or gums getting infected. Cosmetic procedures can also help to maintain the integrity of the jawbone, and so much more.

Cosmetic Procedures

There are a variety of different cosmetic procedures that fall under the category of “cosmetic dentistry.”

Some of these include:

Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is a procedure that involves placing a piece of resin over a damaged portion of a tooth. Dental bonding can be used to treat teeth suffering from a variety of issues, including teeth that are cracked, broken and discolored.

Veneers
A dental veneer is an excellent tooth repair option when the damage to the tooth is a little too severe to be repaired using dental bonding. A veneer is a prosthetic piece that is placed on top of a healthy, natural tooth to repair damage. A veneer may be used to repair broken, cracked or chipped teeth, along with other issues.

Braces
When a patient’s teeth are suffering from alignment issues, braces are often the right choice for repair. There are a variety of different types of braces that a patient may be able to choose from, depending on their individual needs.

Gum Contouring
Gum contouring allows a patient to reshape their gums to remove the appearance of a “gummy smile.” Contouring can also be used to even out the gum line.

Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is an excellent choice for patients that have yellow, discolored or stained teeth. This process involves either the dentist whitening the patient’s teeth in-office, or providing the patient with an at-home treatment kit. These treatments can significantly improve the whiteness of the patient’s teeth—sometimes whitening the teeth up to ten times whiter!

The Right Dentist

In order to put your smile design plan together, you’ll want to find the right cosmetic dentist. Your general dentist may be an excellent choice for certain cosmetic procedures, but they may not be able to perform others. Speak with your dentist about the cosmetic procedures that you would like done, and see if they are the right person to perform them.

Cosmetic dentistry can help to restore the brilliance of your smile, allowing you to smile bright and be proud of your smile.
